Don't see filler sounds or silences in Resound? Here's what to do next...

Updated over 7 months ago

If you upload files into Resound and see "All done" and your stats show "0 Cut" and "0 Kept", there might be something wrong. This article will help you get to the bottom of the issue on your own.

If Filler Sound Detection is not working…

If Resound does not detect any ums and ahs in your audio, here’s what to do next.

Does the recording have filler sounds?

Listen to the recording to see if you can hear any filler sounds (um, ah, eh, uh, er, etc).

  • If it does have filler sounds, keep reading to find other possible causes.

  • If it does not have filler sounds, that is why Resound did not detect any edits.

Does the recording match our list of accepted file formats?

  • If it does match our accepted file formats, keep reading to find other causes.

  • If it does not match an accepted file format, you can use Cloud Converter (free) to convert it to an accepted file format.

Does the recording sound clear and high-quality?

While Resound works across many different environments and audio qualities, the worse your audio quality is, the worse your results in Resound will most likely be.

  • If it does sound clear and high-quality, keep reading to find other causes.

  • If it does not sound clear and high-quality, this may be the reason Reosund is not detecting edits. Try uploading a project with higher quality or manually add your own edits by right-clicking on the waveform.

If Silence Detection is not working…

If Resound does not detect any silences in your audio, here’s what to do next.

Does the recording have silence(s) that are quieter than -50 DB and longer than 3 seconds?

Resound’s silence detection detects sounds quieter than -50 DB that are 3 seconds or longer. If you have a 10-minute segment of audio that is “silent” but the host taps their microphone or clicks a pen this transient sound might cause the silence detection to be disrupted.
